EastEnders fans ‘work out’ Ben Mitchell’s exit in Keanu murder twist

EastEnders fans are convinced they’re figured out Ben Mitchell’s exit storyline after it was confirmed that actor Max Bowden will be leaving the BBC soap later this year

Details regarding Ben Mitchell’s exit storyline have been kept under wraps so far, but EastEnders fans are convinced they’ve worked out how he’ll depart Walford. It was confirmed last year that actor Max Bowden, who has played Ben since 2019, will be leaving EastEnders in 2024.

Soap fans think recent episodes have started to point towards Ben’s departure, with many certain it will involve the character heading to prison. Ben has agreed to help Johnny Carter in his efforts to get villainous Dean Wicks to exit Albert Square, as they look to help Johnny’s mum Linda, who has been struggling with Dean’s presence in Walford.

Ben and husband Callum Highway vowed to help Johnny, with Callum insisting everything must be legal and above board. But fans think Ben’s offer to help Johnny may be the start of his exit storyline.

Some are convinced this will even lead to Ben becoming involved in the murder of Keanu Taylor. Keanu was killed by Linda on Christmas Day after he attacked Sharon Watts, but no one is aware except from The Six – Linda, Stacey Slater, Kathy Beale, Suki Panesar, Denise Fox and Sharon – and Johnny.

Taking to social media to share their theories regarding Ben’s upcoming departure, one person said: “If Ben regenerates, it’s likely he’s still going to leave for a little while and then come back with a new (old? Still rooting for Harry to return) face. My bet is he goes down for Keanu’s murder and goes to prison.”

A second fan added: “I was thinking it’ll be something to do with Dean. As much as I don’t want him to be involved, maybe he knows about Christmas and Ben jumps in for Kathy’s sake and either kills or has him killed and gets caught. If he actually does know about Christmas and stole the weapon, death is the only way to shut him up safely. He’ll either blackmail or ruin Linda for sure.”

“Your theory is much, much better. I bet you’re right on the money, I didn’t even think about Dean playing a part in this. Still, prison is definitely going to be Ben’s exist and then he’ll be let out a year later with a new face or morphs back into Harry Reid,” a third wrote.

EE bosses have kept details of Ben’s exit under wraps, despite confirming Max will be leaving the role. The BBC confirmed the news to OK!, telling us: “Max will be leaving EastEnders next year. We wish him all the best for the future.”
