Is Mick Carter coming back to EastEnders? Danny Dyer’s character’s fate ‘sealed’ amid return rumours

Mick Carter on EastEnders

EastEnders fans have been left wondering if Mick Carter could be making a return to the BBC soap after viewers begged for Danny Dyer to make a return to the role

Mick Carter is one of EastEnders’ most iconic characters.

The much-loved character, played by Danny Dyer, had been a key part of the BBC soap before he made an exit from the Square when he “died” trying to save Linda Carter and Janine Butcher. Mick’s future has been the talk of the town since his surprising departure from EastEnders over a year ago in shock scenes – but could he be making a comeback?

Mick appeared to meet his end in dramatic scenes during Christmas 2002. There was a face-off between him, his new partner Janine Butcher, and his ex Linda Carter. In a shocking turn of events, Mick leapt off a cliff to protect his loved ones, before seemingly “drowning” in the sea. After several weeks, the police concluded that Mick had died – but they never found a body. This led fans to speculate that he might still be alive and could return one day.

Some fans are convinced that Mick is actually alive somewhere, especially after Cindy Beale – who was thought to be dead years ago – made a surprising comeback recently as Rose Knight. So, could Danny Dyer make a return to EastEnders one day, and will we see Mick Carter back in Walford, reuniting with Linda as she continues to battle with her health.

Could Mick make a return?

Could Mick make a return?

Danny said about the show: “Anything is possible. Where would he have gone to? He can’t swim. I found it a bit odd.” Chris Clenshaw, the show’s executive producer, has in the past made fans think Mick might still be around somewhere. He said earlier this year: “It’s a soap, anything can happen! There wasn’t a body so there’s every chance, will Mick rock back up in Walford in a few years covered in seaweed? Will he be the dead body at Christmas?”

We know now that Mick wasn’t the dead body, but people keep talking about a possible return. In the past, Danny has talked a lot about leaving EastEnders. “I tell you what it is, I’m lazy. It’s f***ing hard. Thirty pages you’ve got to learn a day. It’s like a film a week,” he said about his last days on the show.

“My final scenes were in the sea, in Ramsgate at 2am. We did the exteriors in the sea and the interiors you go to a water tank. But EastEnders couldn’t get Pinewood, so we had to go to Basildon. It’s all warm and lovely but to make it look like the sea they put broccoli juice in it. You smell of a***. It’s f***ing broccoli juice. Warm broccoli juice. It was very emotional, but I stunk. I do miss the people there, there’s no two ways about it but it’s a new chapter for me.”
