Soap fans are still face a week of disruption for their favourite shows, after it was revealed that Emmerdale, EastEnders and Coronation Street will not be in their usual spots
Fans of the country’s biggest and best-loved shows are to face chaos this week as they are pulled from our screens.
Soap lovers will be less than happy that their mainstay shows are being forced from the schedule in order to allow for football matches. All three major soaps – Emmerdale, EastEnders and Coronation Street – are set to face disruption as a result of several matches taking place this week.
For football fans, this is a particularly important week as the FA Cup reaches its next level. However, this is now coming at the cost of the soaps, which regularly attracts millions of dedicated viewers.
All three soaps will air their latest instalments in their usual slots on Monday (February 26). Both EastEnders and Emmerdale will go out to their viewership at 7:30pm on BBC One, the BBC iPlayer, ITV1 and ITVX respectively.
Tuesday will see EastEnders be completely pulled from the BBC channel. This is down to a fixture between Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United that is taking place at that time.
Similarly to the BBC, ITV decided to push Emmerdale ahead to 7pm in order to make space for Manchester City to take on recently promoted Luton Town half an hour later. Coronation Street will also notably be absent, but will make up for it by having a bumper one-hour long episode of content.
Wednesday (February 28th) will see EastEnders being pulled from screens for the second day in a row, as Nottingham Forest’s clash with Manchester United instead being shown on the channel. Emmerdale will again be moved a half-hour earlier as ITV will broadcast Liverpool’s fixture against Southampton in its regular slot.
As a result, Coronation Street will be pulled from the channel entirely. Instead, the episode that would be broadcast on Wednesday instead being shown on Thursday (February 29) at 8pm, coming after an extended episode of Emmerdale.
EastEnders will return to the BBC at 7:30pm on Thursday, and while all three soaps will be back on our screens, the scheduling shake-up does not end here. Friday will see another hour-long episode of EastEnders will be back on our screens at 7:30pm; however, this will clash with its ITV counterparts.
