Colin Bennett dead: BBC children’s TV star dies – as EastEnders & After Life star son pays tribute to ‘hero’ dad
VETERAN BBC children’s television star Colin Bennett has died.
Colin was known for his role as caretaker Mr Bennett on the BBC show Take Hart and its spin-off called Hartbeat during the 1970s and 80s.
His EastEnders and After Life actor son Tom Bennett announced the death of his dad on Friday night.
In a post on X, he wrote: “My Dad (Mr Bennett) sadly passed away 2 weeks ago today. I still don’t quite have the words. He was my hero.”
“I will miss him more than he will ever know. I love you, Dad.”
Take Hart ran from 1977 to 1983, while Hartbeat ran from 1984 to 1989.
Bennett also appeared in shows like You Should Be So Lucky, the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and Luna.
Fans showed their love for the classic actor as they remembered the impact he had on their childhoods.
One said: “Bless you man. We ALL loved your Dad. Big part of so many of our childhoods. Love to you and your family!”
Another said: “Very sorry for your loss, Tom. He was such a happy and familiar part of so many people’s childhoods.”
A third posted: “Oh, I’m so sorry to hear that. He was a part of my childhood (and LOTS of people my age will feel the same). Condolences to you and your family.”
Following the outpouring from fans, Tom posted a response: “I had no idea the outpouring of love would be so huge!
“I’m truly overwhelmed in the most joyously emotional way possible by all you kind, heartfelt words.
“He was a special man & I’m so proud & it’s bringing me so much joy he meant so much to so many of you.”
