Danny Dyer got caught up in quite the scuffle while filming his latest project.

The EastEnders legend took a beating from a gang of men as he filmed The Football Factory sequel, 20 years on from the release of the first movie.

Pictures show Danny, 46, holding a metal pole, appearing to get ready for battle before being set upon by a group of lads who kick him to the ground.

Baring an angry expression, the London-born soap star gritted his teeth as he launched himself at the men.

But after initially vowing to tackle the mob all guns blazing, he is soon visibly terrified and, while in character, cowering away.

Thankfully, there was no actual bloodshed, with a crash mat placed on the cold, wet floor for Danny’s safety.

The Football Factory was first released in 2004 and told the story of Danny’s character Tommy Johnson, as well as his football fanatic friends.

While known for indulging in violence and drugs, when a fight with a rival team spirals out of control, they decide to change their lifestyle.

As well as Danny, the movie stars Frank Harper, Tamer Hassan, Tony Denham, Roland Manookian, and Neil Maskell.

Alas, the film wasn’t a roaring success and received a flurry of negative reviews, landing 38% on Rotton Tomatoes with an average rating of 4.70/10.

Despite that, though, a sequel has been green-lit, with Danny reprising his role of Tommy.

The follow-up to the movie about the football hooligans has been given the working title Marching Powder in a reference to the drug-taking featured in the original.

A source previously told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: ‘It’s full steam ahead for Football Factory 2 and filming is due to start in January.

‘The hope is they can turn it around quickly enough so it comes out in 2024 – in time for the 20th anniversary.’

They added: ‘The script for Marching Powder will reveal what happened to the rival factions of hooligans after the end of the last film.

‘It’s a real passion project for Danny who can’t wait to get his teeth back into the role.

‘Tamer Hassan – who played Millwall firm leader Fred – is also back for the film.
