The verdict is in as EastEnders confirms racist Eddie Knight’s fate

Eddie stands trial in EastEnders

EastEnders has confirmed the fate of racist Eddie Knight (Christopher Fairbank), who has been on trial for murder in recent scenes.

Eddie arrived on the Square with wife Gloria (Elizabeth Counsell) in January to reveal a shocking secret to son George (Colin Salmon).

They revealed that they had been paid to take in their adopted son, through a process known as farming.

This led George to discover that they had lied about his heritage, and left him with a lot of questions about his identity.

Unfortunately, things only got worse from there, when George came to realise that his parents had only told him the truth because they needed him to stand as Eddie’s character witness in court, as he was set to face trial for a racially motivated murder.

During a confrontation with Eddie, George revealed that he had witnessed the attack, and was left horrified to discover that the man Eddie had killed had been his biological father.

George felt even more betrayed when Gloria revealed that she had asked Eddie to do whatever it took to stop George’s biological parents taking him away.

For several weeks, George deliberated over what to say in court, but eventually decided to tell the truth, admitting to the judge and jury that his adopted dad was a racist.

Despite facing tough cross-examination from Eddie’s defence lawyer, George made a good impression on the jury, and in recent scenes Eddie’s fate was finally revealed.

While searching Gloria and Eddie’s flat to retrieve a box for his mum, who was in hospital following her heart attack, George received a phone call from partner Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe), who revealed that Eddie had been found guilty.

Back at the hospital, George relayed the news to Gloria, who seemed relieved. Unfortunately, their happiness was short lived, as Gloria sadly passed away.

In satisfying scenes, EastEnders aired a thrilling arrest as The Six’s efforts to cover up what happened to Keanu Taylor (played by Danny Walters) continued.

It started earlier in the week when Stacey (Lacey Turner) planted the cursed meat thermometer in Dean Wick’s (Matt Di Angelo) flat.

Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) put the plan into motion and went to the police station to tell them she believed it was Dean who killed Keanu (knowing full well it was in fact her).

She explained how she “saw” Dean lugging something heavy in a tarp across Bridge Street and into the cafe.

The detective was keen to know why she was so convinced it was him and she reaffirmed that she saw his face.

He pressed her on why she lied to the police in her initial Christmas statement, to which Linda explained she was scared of him because only she knows what he’s really like: a rapist.

Through tears, she explained how no one believed her when she reported it to the police instead, and as a result she was left fearful of what Dean would do if he found out what she was doing.

Later, Dean and Jade (Elizabeth Green) walked around Albert Square, excited to be heading to New York tomorrow.

But smug Dean had the smiled wiped off his face when the police arrived and announced he was to be arrested for the murder of Keanu.

Furious Dean was whisked to the station where he was questioned about what he was doing on the night in question.

Dean seemed confident they had nothing really on him, until the police searched his flat and uncovered the murder weapon.

The detective finally revealed Linda “saw” Dean dragging something into the cafe.

Realisation set in that he was being set up by his nemesis, and for once it looked like he wouldn’t get his own way.
