Update Shocking: Barbara Windsor’s widower on moving on: ‘She’d have remarried a 25-year-old by now!’
Scott Mitchell, widow to EastEnders legend Dame Barbara Windsor, spoke about moving on in a relationship.
The couple were married for twenty years prior to her death aged 83 in 2020 following her Alzheimer’s diagnosis.
Continuing to talk about his life with the acting superstar as well as what his future looks like without her, he told Best Magazine:
‘Before she died, Barbara told me to cry, be broken-hearted, then have the best time. Knowing Barbara, she would have remarried a nice 25-year-old by now!’.
‘In that time [since Barbara’s death], I’ve run a marathon, written a book and there has been a lot of charity work behind the scenes. Now it’s time to think about me and my future. Barbara will always be a massive part of my life, but she would want me to move on.’
He is currently in a relationship with her former co-star Tanya Franks, who played Rainie Cross.
Dame Barbara, originally born Barbara Ann Deeks on August 6 in 1937 in Shorditch, London, began acting at the age of 13, but became best known for her roles in the Carry On movies between 1964 and 1974.
She was also known for playing the iconic role of Peggy Mitchell in the BBC One soap – Queen Vic landlady and mother to Phil (Steve McFadden) and Grant (Ross Kemp).
Four years on from Barbara’s death, Scott continues to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research UK and has ran the London Marathon alongside a number of EastEnders stars.
