This is something ‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers never really thought about since we were so sure Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) wants to destroy Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), but maybe he’s trying to help him?
Cyrus has said he’s jealous that Sonny gets all the respect and is treated like a saint by Laura Collins (Genie Francis) and others while he’s looked at like dog dirt.
It makes sense since there’s very little difference between them aside of Cyrus being more aggressive since he dealt with drugs.
It’s because of that we assumed he wants to destroy Sonny, but what if his intentions are actually good?
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers – Skewered perspective
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers have long considered Cyrus to be legitimate in his claims to have found God and wanting to be a better person, but we also think he’s become more radicalized in the good vs. evil aspect.
In his mind, he’s saved so he’s good and righteous, and he wants to bring that to Sonny, who is anything but.
That would explain why he tried to set him up with the Feds, but it could’ve been Cyrus’ roundabout way to help Sonny see the light and save his soul.
It’d be a curious angle to take and one that can be tricky from a writing stand point, but so far it’s a distinct possibility.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers – The Shepard
This could explain why Cyrus disturbs Sonny at the church and risks facing his wrath. Cyrus may want to offer words of encouragement and ask about Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros).
Though we have to admit if he tells Sonny he listened to Nina’s confession and urged her to tell him, it could go a couple of ways.
On one hand, Sonny will be furious and want to kill Cyrus for having a hand in destroying so many lives and he could kill him on the spot.
On the other, It could help Sonny understand that Nina was coming to tell him, and that would mean he’ll believe her and some of his frustration will melt away into hurt.
It’ll be an interesting step on their way to repairing their relationship since he couldn’t bring himself to rip into Nina and sent her to Carly Spencer (Laura Wright)’s for what should be a hugely emotional moment.
Either way, this could be one of the last times we see Cyrus depending on Sonny’s response. We already know he’s ready to kill, and Cyrus admitting his hand in things could be the final push Sonny needs to bury himself.
