General Hospital’s Rena Sofer Discloses a Heartbreaking Loss: ‘I Am Destroyed and Numb’

Our broken hearts go out to Rena Sofer. On March 17, she shared the sad news that her dog Alfie had passed away. So overwhelming was the loss, it was difficult for her to discuss. “I have too much to say,” she wrote. “But I have no words right now. It’s all just so much pain.

“Yesterday was the most devastating yet expected day. But it was too soon,” she added. “I only had my boy for seven years and eight days. Cancer stole him from me, from Sandy [husband Sanford Bookstaver], from [their daughter] Avalon and from his sister Mega. From everyone who knew and loved him.”

The General Hospital star, who returned to Port Charles as Lois in 2023, is an admirable advocate for pet adoption and fostering. “I love all my dogs… but without remorse… Alfie was my favorite,” she admitted. “My heart and soul dog. I am destroyed and numb.

“The greatest gift we gave each other was each other,” she continued. “I will miss you forever and ever and ever.”

Immediately, friends and castmates past and present reached out to offer the Emmy winner their condolences. “So very much love to you and your family,” messaged Karla Mosley, who played Maya on Bold & Beautiful. “I’m so, so sorry,” said General Hospital leading lady Laura Wright (Carly).
